MAGNESIUM BASED HYDROGEN GAS PRODUCTION PLANT

Schematic diagram of production and distribution of Hydrogen Gas (H2) produced through the production process of Magnesium Oxide (MgO) from Metal Magnesium (Mg) is as illustrated below.

Output:
Magnesium Oxide : 2,000 kg per day (1,000 kg per batch or per 10 hours)
Hydrogen Gas : 100 kg per day (1,110 Nm3 per day)

Features:

Feature-1
[Small-scale investment]
The size of the plant designed to produce Magnesium Oxide 2 tons and Hydrogen Gas 100 kg per day is small and its initial capital investment cost is low. Private investment in plant construction is possible even for existing Service Station owner. (Internal Rate of Return: more than 25%, Investment Pay-back Year: less than 3-years) Plant lease will be available in near future.
Feature-2
[High investment return]
The selling price of Magnesium Oxide is around 4 times higher than the purchase price of Metal Magnesium (raw material). It is possible to sell Hydrogen Gas (by-product of Magnesium Oxide production) at selling price as low as possible (say at less than half of prevailing market price of Hydrogen Gas)
Feature-3
[Local production and local consumption]
Mode of production of Hydrogen Gas is of On-site Production. The local production and local consumption mode of production is possible to minimize the logistics cost.
Feature-4
[Contribution to realization of low carbon society]
Green House Gas (GHG) emission especially Carbon Dioxide (CO2) emission can be minimized as low as possible since the production of hydrogen gas does not rely on fossil energy sources. The nationwide deployment of hydrogen gas stations will promote the use of Fuel Cell Vehicles (FCVs) thereby contribute greatly to the reduction of mobile emission sources.
Feature-5
[Infinite resources]
If the development of technology to produce magnesium from rock salt or seawater progresses further in the future, the cost of magnesium will likely come down substantially, and the abundance of raw materials will become infinite.
